Rhonnda Paddlers Utilise BCP Grant

Rhondda padlers have utilised a British Canoe Polo grant to make new facilities fit for purpose to facilitate canoe polo at the Rhondda pool!

“Rhondda Paddlers is now going from strength with support from Sport Wales we have been able to set up a junior u12s canoe polo squad, consisting of 3 junior teams who now with the support of the British Canoe Polo Committee have suitable facilities at their home venue pool. They can play polo without damage to boats, develop good practice/skills and even have a sub area! Inspired by our junior development we now have interest in setting up an adult polo team and we have invited other clubs to the venue to have friendly competition so that we can learn. On 29th January we will host 2 Teams from Swansea University and 2 teams from Aberfan CC for a mini tournament.

The facilities will now be used more widely than club level, already being used for Wales Canoe Polo Youth Development sessions who it will also offer similar benefits. Canoe Wales Canoe Polo Committee have now also booked the venue to run indoor 4s tournaments throughout next few Winter months!

Rhondda Paddlers would like to offer their sincere thanks to the BC Canoe Polo Committee for their support without which the development would not have been possible.” – Matt Free, Rhondda Paddlers
