Women’s Canoe Polo Training Weekend

The weekend of the 31st of May will be going ahead as the first Women’s Canoe Polo training weekend. You can sign up here

The following information is in the form and shared by Kirsten, the organiser:

This weekend is aimed at all women over 18 who play canoe polo who are interested in further coaching and development.

Background

There is currently no formal women’s polo training squad, in part due to lack of coaches, and in part due to the number of players. Discussions are ongoing within the squad about arrangements for this years Europeans, but it is generally agreed that there needs to be a way to develop grassroots as well as more advanced women’s polo.

The goal

Given there aren’t many clubs with training for women specifically, it seems sensible to start with a weekend of polo training for anyone who wants to play more or get some coaching, as well as those considering playing at a squad level.

There won’t be a minimum ability level on the sign up, but there might be a split on the weekend if there is a large group and the majority of squad level players can attend.

The aim will be hopefully to have a further training weekend later in the summer and potentially a tournament, but this will be discussed at the first weekend.

Moving forwards this will hopefully be a regular thing which might provide development for players not able to attend development/ U21 squads to improve and get additional women’s training outside their club. Some players may also wish to progress to the GB women’s squad once coaching and regular weekends recommence.

Dates

There are several suggested dates in the form below – please select all the options you can make and I will communicate a final date based on best availability.

Venue

The venue is likely to be Spring Lakes due to it’s central location – but this does depend on how many people sign up and the venue availability on the suggested dates.

If it isn’t spring lakes a discussion will be had about alternative venues with players.

Costs

Currently TBC – I will work it out based on the venue, but it should be a case of covering your own travel and accommodation costs, as well as potentially a small contribution to additional coaches travel costs.
